Mayweather does a Beatles, snubs press conference

Floyd Mayweather stood up the Filipino media on Tuesday after snubbing a press conference at Resorts World Manila (RWM).

The presser was set at 3 p.m.at the Grand Bar but the US fighter decided to skip the affair despite the presence of writers and photographers who waited for almost nine hours.

Joee Guilas, head of Corporate Communications of Resorts World, was apologetic in telling the media that Mayweather, 42, was no longer gracing the media function.

It was already past 11 p.m. when the official announcement was made, prompting the vast majority to head out the RWM utterly disappointed.

Mayweather’s antics were reminiscent of what The Beatles did in July 1966 when the Fab Four didn’t attend a function at Malacanang upon the invitation of then First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Earlier, Mayweather went to see beauty doctor Vicki Belo in Makati and was expected to proceed to the RWM but was seen shopping at Greenbelt instead.

Mayweather beat Manny Pacquiao in their May 2015 showdown and was supposed to give updates about his plans.

Fight fans initially thought that Mayweather was going to announce a rematch with Pacquiao.

But it was clear at the start that it was not going to be so as Pacquiao was being led to a fight with either Keith Thurman or Danny Garcia on July 13.
