UAAP baseball: Soaring Falcons take on Growling Tigers

Games today: (Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium)
8:30 a.m. – UST vs AdU (Softball Finals)
12 noon – Ateneo vs DLSU (Baseball Finals)

Adamson University goes for the jugular as it tangles with University of Santo Tomas today (Tuesday) in the UAAP softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Tigresses may have lost all their three meetings this season, bit coach Ana Santiago is not resting her laurels as the Lady Falcons try to annex their ninth consecutive title - and 18th overall at 8:30 a.m.

"Basta ang importante sa amin, hindi pa tapos ang laban. Nagsisimula pa lang ang laban," said Santiago.

Everything went right in Adamson University's abbreviated 11-2 series-opening win last Friday, as UST could not answer its opponent's impressive hitting and pitching.

Unless the Tigresses will figure out everything that will get them back in the series, the Lady Falcons are a cinch to extend their dynastic rule.

De La Salle seeks to close its baseball championship series against Ateneo in Game 2 at 12 noon.

The Green Batters won last Friday's opener, 9-7, but not without surviving a late Blue Eagles stand.

After Iggy Escaño blasted a three-run homer in the bottom eighth to give La Salle a needed cushion, Ateneo needed Gino Tantuico's grandslam homerun in the ninth to inch closer, but the Katipunan-based batters fell short.

Coach Joseph Orillana, the ace pitcher of the Green Batters squad that won a championship in 2003, is aware of the Eagles' capability to extend the series.

"Same approach pa rin kami. In baseball, we will still focus on pitching, hitting at yung tulong sa depensa," said Orillana.
