2 killed, scores held in Cavite anti-drug sweeps

CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GAR­CIA, IMUS, Cavite – Two drug suspects were killed while scores of others were arrested by police in operations over the weekend in Cavite.

The Cavite provincial police iden­tified the fatalities as Jervie Cortez Ignacio, 33, a resident of Barangay 24, Cavite City, and Asnawe Opiz Bayabao, of Barangay Datu Esmael, Dasmari­ñas City.

Police said the suspects died when they shot it out with officers during a drug bust.

Pat. Jumar Bedural, case investi­gator, reported that Ignacio died when he traded shots with a police drug en­forcement team at 10:50 a.m. Saturday. He was declared dead on arrival at Bautista Hospital.

Recovered were Ignacio's .38 cal. revolver, a wallet containing six sa­chets with shabu and P520 in cash.

Bayabao died in a shootout with an­other drug enforcement team on Gov­ernor's Drive in Barangay Paliparan I, Dasmariñas, at 11:40 p.m. Saturday.
