In a complete irony of things, a ranking police officer was arrested by his fellow cops right inside the main camp of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, Quezon City over allegations of extortion.

The arrest of Police Senior Inspector Gerry Manuel Revecho, chief of the ID Production Section of the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (PNP-SOSIA), was revealed by PNP chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde in a press briefing on Monday.

According to Albayalde, Revecho was apprehended in an entrapment operation conducted by operatives of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), Civil Security Group (CSG) and Intelligence Group (IG) inside the SOSIA office in Camp Crame around 2:10 p.m. last Friday.

Albayalde said numerous complaints against Revecho were received by the office of the CITF accusing him of extorting money from security guards to expedite the processing of their identification cards (IDs).

"There were complaints against him and that triggered the operation. According to the complainants, he was asking for P20,000 to facilitate or expedite the processing of the IDs of the security guards," Albayalde told reporters.
