Oriental Mindoro police nab 2 mulcting NPA amazons

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Two women believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) amazons were arrested for alleged extortion in an entrapment operation in Victoria town last Thursday morning.

Sr. Supt. Thomas R. Frias, provincial director of Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO), identified the suspects as Hilda A. Capitle, 32, jobless, a resident of Barangay Bambanin, Victoria; and Mel R. Santiago, 21, of Barangay Camilmil, Calapan City.

Frias said that last March 21, they received a complaint from a Naujan town businessman that he had received text messages from a certain Ka Miumi, Ka Ryan and Ka Tanya, threatening him if he failed to give in to their demand for money.

Naujan and Victoria Police, as well as the Oriental Mindoro PPO and the Army’s 203rd Briage immediately set up an entrapment operation at about 9:40 a.m. in Barangay Poblacion Uno, Victoria.

This resulted in the arrest of Capitle and Santiago who also yielded a hand grenade, a caliber-.38 gun, laptop, 10 cellular phones, subversive documents and a tickler with names of different personaties that included Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel.
