3 injured, 900 families rendered homeless in QC fire

A fire razed a residential area in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City leaving at least 900 families homeless and three people wounded.

Fire Marshal Jaime Ramirez of Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City, the fire started at the bedroom of ta house owned by a certain Ronnie Mañago in an informal settlers' area in Sitio Pajo, Barangay Baesa around 12 noon.

The alarm status was immediately raised to fifth alarm around 12:29 p.m. or at least 30 minutes after the fire broke out.

The fire alarm further reached Task Force Alpha at 12:42 p.m., and Task Force Bravo at 12:47 p.m. as the blaze quickly spread to adjacent houses that were made of light materials.

At least 300 houses were engulfed by the fire that lasted for two hours before it was declared out at 2:02 p.m.

Meanwhile, the three men who were wounded were identified as Jeoffrey Jersy, 36, who sustained an abrasion on his left foot, Vandolf Lagnedad, 16, who suffered a contusion on his feet, and Franklin Gacutan, 43, who suffered a puncture wound on his right foot.

Fire probers have yet to identify the cause of the fire as further investigation is still ongoing, while the estimated damage of the fire was pegged at P1.5 million.
