Bong Solmerin, Balutan’s spokesperson, posted on the official Facebook account of Balutan that he has decided to resign due to “personal reasons.”  No other details were provided.

The Facebook post read: “PCSO General Manager Alexander Ferrer Balutan has opted to resign from his post due to personal reasons.”

This is contrary to other news reports saying that he was fired by no less than Pres. Duterte himself.

Balutan, a retired Marine general, was appointed by Duterte as PCSO general manager in September 2016.

He is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class of 1983.

In 2018, Balutan faced a controversy about the lavish Christmas party of their agency at a posh hotel.  PCSO board member Sandra Cam criticized Balutan for spending so much for just a party. Yet, Balutan was defended by the president.
