BUTUAN CITY - Two mild earthquakes jolted Surigao del Sur province anew on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was registered at 3:35 a.m. on Thursday.

The epicenter was plotted 66 kilometers (km) southeast of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur province.

The new tremor had a depth of only 9 km., the state agency said. Earlier, at 3:04 a.m. of the same day, a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was also recorded and its epicenter was traced 90 km. northeast of that same town of Hinatuan, also of Surigao del Sur province, with a depth of 33 km.

The two tremors were tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.
