Top Japanese Army official pays courtesy on PH Army chief

The Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) will pay a courtesy call on Philippine Army (PA) Chief Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, on Monday, March 4.

Army Spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon P.Zagala said Gen. Koji Yamazaki will visit the Army headquarters as part of the Philippine-Japan Defense Cooperation.

The visit will take place at about 7:30 a.m.

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, also referred to as the Japanese Army, is the land-warfare branch of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) and the de facto army of Japan.

The JGSDF operates under the command of the chief of the ground staff, based in the city of Ichigaya, Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Created on July 1, 1954, JGSDF is the largest of the three services of the Japan JSDF with about 150,000 active personnel.
