A vice mayoral candidate in Masbate wanted for murder has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Legaspi City, Albay on Monday.

NBI Special Task Force (NBI-STF) Chief Gerald Jeralde identified the arrested fugitive as Vincent Capinig, a barangay captain of Claveria town, Masbate and a former member of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).

Jeralde said NBI agents arrested Capinig on Monday after having his car stopped at Legaspi City.

Capinig, who is running as vice mayor in Claveria, will also be facing charges of illegal possession of firearms after a gun was found in his car by agents.

Jeralde said NBI agents arrested Capinig based on an arrest warrant issued way back in 2011 by Pasig City Judge Rowena Modesto San Pedro.

Capinig is facing a non-bailable murder case before the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) for the December 2010 murder of Bryan Abroguena, who was just 14 years old at the time he was gunned down.

Two of his co-accused were identified as Nowie Torres and Noel Torres.

For his part, Capinig has denied being involved in the killing and claimed that the family of the victim has already desisted from filing a case against him.
