Comelec not organizing senatorial debates

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will not be organizing their own senatorial debates, a poll official said in a radio interview on Saturday.

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that the debates should be left to private organizations, such as universities, since they have enough resources to host such an event.

News channels ABS-CBN News and GMA News have already hosted senatorial debates recently.

Meanwhile, the COMELEC has been directing its attention on taking down out-of-size and out-of-place campaign posters all over the country.

COMELEC Spokesman James Jimenez said they are also monitoring the social media platforms of candidates to curb overspending on online campaigns.

Aside from this, the commission also conducts “over the air voter education” through their radio program, Jimenez added.
