1 dead, 14 others injured in Albay road mishap

CAMP OLA, Albay – A 50-year old passenger died while being treated in a hospital, while 14 others were injured after a dump truck mowed down a passenger jeepney in Barangay Libod, Camalig town in Albay province on Tuesday afternoon.

Sr. Insp. Mayvell Gonzales, Albay Police Provincial Office (PPO ) spokesperson identified the fatality as Imelda Loquis, 50, and a resident of Barangay Flores, Pioduran, Albay.

Gonzales said, the victim died around 5:45 p.m. while being treated at Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Legazpi City.

Also injured were the drivers of the two ill-fated vehicles, the jeenpey’s passengers and several pedestrians.

Initial investigation showed that, at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the passenger jeepney was travelling along the the national highway in Barangay Libod, head for Guinobatan, when the dump truck bumped the jeepney from behind, forcing it to careen into a creek.

The wayward truck then hit the houses owned by Rowena Villar and Arjay Nacion Jr.

Further investigation was still being conducted as of press time.
