EPDC forms task force for investigating shooting incident
The Eastern Police District Command ( EPDC) has formed a task force that would investigate the shooting incident which claimed the lives of two people along EDSA last Sunday.
Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba , Distirct Director of EPDC has ordered the creation of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Yulo to determine the motive of the killing and to hunt the perpetrators of the incident.
It was learned that the special investigation task group has autopsied Yulo's remains and is studying fingerprints on van and the trajectory of the bullets recovered in the crime scene.
Authorities are also looking into a CCTV footage of the crime scene or surveillance camera in the area that could give additional details or information of the shooting.
Initial report showed that armed men aboard a black motorcycle pumped bullets at the passenger side of a white Toyota Hi-Ace van (NOS 361).
Wounded in the incident were Jose Luis Yulo, 62; Esmeralda Ignacio, 38, from Las Piñas City; and Nomer Santos, 51, the van owner.
Police said YUlo and Santos died in the hospital while Ignacio is still recovering.

Boy, 8, drowns in Malabon resort
An 8-year-old boy drowned in a resort along M. H. Del Pilar Street, Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City on Sunday morning.
Police identified the victim as Nigelmin Berinio of Pacheco Street, Barangay 67, Tondo, Manila.
According to a report, the victim and his mother, identified by police as July Anne Berinio, 25, were invited by the latter's boyfriend to a family outing at the said resort.
A certain Mark Anthony Guia, 17, told police that while he was swimming, his foot touched the victim's body at the bottom of the pool.
Guia alerted his friend, a certain Erickson Uy, 18, and the resort's lifeguard, Leidielyn Cruz, 37, who tried to revive the boy using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), investigation showed. Later, the victim was rushed to San Lorenzo Ruiz Women's Hospital in Malabon City but was declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physician Dr. Larry Aquino at about 11:41 a.m. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco)
Man abducted while having his car fixed found dead
A man who was abducted on Thursday was found dead inside a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Barangay 175, Caloocan City on Saturday morning.
Senior Supt. Restituto Arcangel, Caloocan City Police chief, identified the victim as Camar Tampla, 49, businessman.
On Thursday noon, the victim, with his wife Esnaira, was having his car fixed along Quirino Highway when three still unidentified men entered the car and sped away with Camar still inside.
Esnaira reported the abduction to the police on Thursday afternoon.
After monitoring of close circuit television footage (CCTV), the police found on Saturday the victim's body inside his SUV along Camaro Street corner Holden Street, Brixton Ville, Barangay 175, Camarin, Caloocan City.
Cursory investigation showed that the victim died of suffocation, said Police Chief Inspector Joe Mar Ronquillo, Caloocan City Police Station Investigation Unit chief.
The motive behind the killing is yet to be determined as the suspects did not steal any of the victims' belongings in his vehicle, Arcangel said.

Man gunned down at Port Area
A 47-year-old man was gunned down by unidentified suspects in Port Area, Manila on Monday early morning.
The police identified the fatality as Leo Coker, helper, and resident of Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila.
He died on the spot after sustaining two gunshot wounds on the back of his neck and the back of his body.
Investigation showed that Ronelito Benson, 35, a barangay tanod, was eating at the carinderia across the street when he heard three gunshots.
Curious of what happened, he went to the street and he saw the victim gasping for his breath along the main road of Baseco Compound at around 3:00 a.m. on Feb 18.
He immediately informed the authorities of the barangay hall about the incident.
The body was brought to Archangel funeral parlor for autopsy and examination.
Follow-up investigation is now underway to apprehend the suspects and the motive behind the killing. (Erma Edera)
Pasay jail inmate yields shabu valued at P250,000
Shabu valued at some P250,000 was seized from an inmate inside the Pasay City Jail during the Oplan Greyhound early Monday morning.
Pasay City Jail Warden Supt. Joe Jay Arejola identified the inmate as Joel Dela Cruz, 50, who he said was also arrested for illegal drug charges in May 2018.
Arejola said inmates on the fourth floor of the Pasay City Jail were asked to line up during the Oplan Greyhound at around 5 a.m.
Jail officers pulled Dela Cruz out from the line after they noticed a bulge at the back of his pants. Upon frisking, Dela Cruz was asked to take off his pants.
Authorities then found a sachet of suspected shabu weighing about 25 grams with an estimated value of P250,000 inserted between his buttocks.
“Pinahawak lang sa akin ‘yun. Hindi ko alam kung kanino,” Dela Cruz said in an interview.
Arejola said Dela Cruz is now under investigation to shed light on how the contraband was brought in despite strict jail inspection. (Michelle Guillang)
