The alleged rapist of an eight-month-old baby was shot dead inside the office of Malate Police Station Commander after he reportedly grabbed the service firearm of the jailer on-duty last Thursday evening, police said.

An initial report stated that Benedicto Dizon, alias “Jumong”, 22, complained of a headache and difficulty of breathing, which were attributed to the injuries he sustained from the relatives of the victim, while inside his cell at about 9:20 p.m. on January 24.

This prompted PO1 Dennis Javier, jailer on-duty, to take him out of his cell and handcuff him so that he could be brought to a hospital.
But before leaving for the hospital, Javier brought Dizon to the office of Malate Police Station Commander Supt. Bobby Glenn Ganipac to inform him about the suspect’s condition.

Javier then unlocked Dizon’s handcuffs so he could drink the coffee that was served in Ganipac’s office.

It was when Javier was returning Dizon’s shackles that the suspect tried to grab the policeman’s firearm and was even able to pull the trigger, as a gunshot
rang inside the commander’s office.

Sensing the danger, Ganipac drew his service firearm and hit Dizon twice on his chest.

Dizon was rushed to Ospital ng Maynila, but was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:15 p.m. by Dr. Ramses Villero.

Dizon was arrested last Monday after his friend accused him of molesting her infant daughter.
