Preemptive evacuation undertaken in Dinagat Islands

BUTUAN CITY – The provincial and municipal disaster risk reduction and management councils (DRRMCs) in the Province of Dinagat Island (PDI) started implementing preemptive evacuation for residents living within the danger zones.

The various DRRMCs also prepared evacuation centers for those residents coming from the different places in PDI.

Residents living in low lying areas, along river channels, and in landslide-prone areas in were also advised to seek temporary shelter in evacuation centers prepared by the local government units.

The PDRRMC in PDI conducted pre-disaster risk assessment on Friday morning to prepare for the possible effect of Tropical Depression (TD) Usman.

Meanwhile, the action and monitoring center of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) based in Surigao City reported that 110 passenger ships, 10 rolling cargo ships and five other vessels have been stranded in Surigao City port.

The PCG stopped the passenger and cargo handling operations in Surigao City Port and Lipata Port Terminal in Lipata, Surigao City, following the bad weather condition brought about by TD Usman.
