Onew, the leader of K-pop boy band SHINee, will enlist in the Korean military today (Dec. 10) and has written a letter to fans to bid them farewell.

SM Entertainment shared photos of Onew getting a military haircut and writing the letter.

“I will have a short break time. I feel sorry but please think of this break as a time for me to prepare to show you a better version of myself. Above all, health is important. I wish you all health and happiness,” Onew said in a handwritten letter.

Onew, 28 (29 in Korean age), will enlist as an active duty soldier. He is the first SHINee member to fulfill his military duty. He will enlist quietly and SM Entertainment did not disclose the place and time of his enlistment.
Before his enlistment, Onew released his first solo album “Voice” on Dec. 5, which topped iTunes in 25 countries including the Philippines, Brazil, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore.

“I will keep singing and if you think of me, please listen to my voice again. I’ll come back and greet you again. I’ll see you again,” added Onew.
