Abu Dar’s top aide nabbed in Lanao del Sur

MADALUM, Lanao del Sur – Government authorities, consisting of soldiers, police and local government officials, arrested the right-hand man of notorious Islamic State-Maute Group leader Abu Dar after a pursuit operation in Barangay Lumbac, Binidayan town in Lanao del Sur.

The suspect was identified as Sohaylie Mohammad Cader, 22, and a resident of the municipality of Balindong here. He was apprehended last November 16.

Cader is said to be the most trusted aide of Dar, the new Emir of IS in southeast Asia, according to the military. He was also believed to be one of those who first launched an attack on Marawi in 2017.

Lt. Col. Ian Noel Ignes, 55th Infantry (Vigilant) battalion commander said the arrest of Cader was prior to a shooting incident in Binidayan involving a soldier on November 15.

"Siya po ang suspect na bumaril ng isang army personnel doon sa Binidayan noong isang araw, kaya nagkaroon kami ng (He was the suspect in the shooting of an Army personnel in Binidayan the other day. That’s why we launched a) pursuit operation together with the PNP and Binidayan officials and the local populace," Ignes said.

Concerned citizens then informed of the suspect's whereabouts that led to his arrest at an abandoned house, he said.

The suspect had a standing warrant of arrest issued in 2017 by a Malabang regional trial court judge for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with murder.
