Panglao addressing environmental issues

PANGLAO, Bohol – Amid the environmental challenges and issues gripping key tourist destinations, Bohol tourism's crown jewel, Panglao Island on Thursday staged an environmental assessment and summit.

Panglao Mayor Leonila Montero invited tourism stakeholders to a summit at the Panglao Cultural Center.

Montero emphasized the sustainability of Panglao’s tourism industry.

She said the tourism industry will greatly benefit from the protection and preservation of the environment.

Furthermore, Montero outlined the town's overarching development framework on the environment.

The town is aiming to become a globally-friendly, competitive and environmentally-safe tourist destination rich in culture and the arts, she said.

She added that the goal of an environmentally sustainable tourist destination can only possible with a dignified and empowered community.

Panglao is one of Bohol's top tourism destinationd.

Efforts and initiatives are underway to address and attend to environmental issues and violations.
