Singer E’Dawn is out of K-pop boy band Pentagon after his contract was terminated by his agency.
On Nov. 14, Cube Entertainment announced that the agency and E’Dawn agreed on the cancellation of his exclusive contract.
“We sincerely thank the artist and all the fans who have been with us until now,” the agency said.
This came a month after Cube Entertainment terminated HyunA’s contract last Oct. 15.
The activities of HyunA and E’Dawn under the project group Triple H were suspended in early August after they announced and confirmed that they were in a romantic relationship.
HyunA and E’Dawn admitted in August that they have been going out for two years and became close when E’Dawn joined her performance of “Roll Deep” in 2015.
“We’ve been going out with each other for two years. We know this would result in some kind of labelling, but we thought it would be hard to look straight into the eyes of our fans (without being honest). So we decided to be honest with our loving and supporting fans and come to the stage with confidence,” they told Yonhap News back then.
As a result, E’Dawn was shut out from Pentagon’s activities and promotions. Foreign fans, meanwhile, launched an online petition, which had more than 91,000 signatures to date, to support E’Dawn and urge Cube Entertainment not to expel him from the boy band.
But last Sept. 13, Cube Entertainment announced that it had decided to kick out the couple from the company because of broken loyalty and trust.
The statement sent Cube stocks falling and in the afternoon of the same day, it retracted the announcement, saying nothing was decided yet.
