Drug personality gunned down in encounter with Pasay cops
An alleged drug personality was gunned down in an encounter that transpired in the middle of a buy-bust operation in Pasig City early Friday morning.
Police only identified the body as a certain “Abba” who was rushed to the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Senior Supt. Rizalito Gapas, Pasig City Police chief, told Manila Bulletin in a text message that Abba was involved with the death of another drug personality in Barangay Palatiw, Pasig in September.
“ information received, the suspect kills drug pushers who fail to remit payment to him,” Gapas added.
Initial investigation showed that at around 2 a.m., Pasig City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspect along P. Tranex Street, Barangay Rosario, Pasig.
When the undercover cop handed over the P200 buy-bust money, the suspect sensed that he was dealing with the authorities.
Police said the suspect then allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired shots at the police, but he missed.
The police retaliated, hitting the suspect in the body.
Probers recovered 11 sachets of suspected shabu, five fired cartridge cases and a caliber .45 pistol, and the buy-bust money.

Police officer assigned at PNP-IAS shot by still unidentified gunman
A police superintendent was rushed to the hospital after he was shot by a still unidentified gunman near his house in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City Thursday night.
Investigation of the Quezon City Police District said that Police Supt. Edgardo Cariaso, 52, sustained a gunshot wound on his right ear but is now in stable condition while still confined at a hospital.
Cariaso was currently assigned at Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) in Camp Crame.
Police report showed that at past 7 p.m., Cariaso just alighted from his green Honda CRV vehicle with plate number WFK-882 when the suspect appeared.
While the victim was conversing with his friend in front of a pizza stall on the corner of Kaliraya Street and Cluster 14 in Barangay Tatalon, the still unidentified man pulled out his handgun and repeatedly shot the victim at a distance.
Cariaso was hit by a lone bullet on his right ear that exited on his left face.
Meanwhile, the suspect walked away from the scene and immediately boarded a getaway motorcycle driven by his companion then escaped.
The victim's wife and their neighbors rushed Cariaso to the hospital where he was treated.
He was the second police officer to be shot by still unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in Quezon City this week.

3 men nabbed in series of buy-bust ops in San Juan
Three men including a GrabExpress driver were arrested in a series of buy-bust operations in San Juan City Wednesday night.
Senior Supt. Dindo Reyes, San Juan City Police chief, identified the suspects of the first sting as Francis Pantia, 39, GrabExpress driver; and Rodrigo Nisola, 35, both from Barangay Salapan, San Juan.
Reyes said that Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) arrested the duo at around 9:30 p.m. along A. Luna Street in Barangay Salapan.
The police learned that Pantia, aside from being a GrabExpress rider, also sells narcotics and even used his motorcycle for illegal drug deliveries.
Suspects told the police they sourced their supply from the cities of Mandaluyong and Manila.
Investigation showed that police poseur buyers were able to purchase a sachet of suspected shabu from Nisola while Pantia was standing right behind him during the transaction.
When Nisola handed over the sachet of drugs to the undercover cops, the prearranged signal was made and the anti-narcotic operatives placed the duo under arrest where the police seized another sachet of suspected shabu from Pantia.
The arrest came after weeks of surveillance where the police received information about the drug peddling activities of the suspects in the area.
Meanwhile, almost an hour later, SDEU team initiated another operation at around 10:30 p.m. in the same barangay that led to the arrest of Eric Lacambra, 42, of Barangay Salapan, San Juan.
Reports showed that Lacambra was busted after selling a sachet of illegal drugs to an undercover cop. When frisked, he yielded another sachet of suspected shabu.
Reyes shared that the three were included in the drug watch list of the station and they were also former surrenderees of "Oplan Tokhang" but they continued their illegal drug activities.
The suspects are now detained at San Juan Police Custodial facility and facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Man with depression found dead hanging in his room
A man was found dead hanging inside his room in Sta. Ana, Manila in an apparent suicide late Thursday evening.
Police identified the fatality as Elmo Villegas Mendoza, 35, and service crew of a fast food giant. He last resided at 2473 Oro-B Estrada Street, Barangay 773 of the said district.
Initial investigation revealed that Mendoza was last seen alive at 10 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Avegail Ilas, the sibling of his live-in partner Margarette Ilas, found Mendoza hanged from the roof.
She then sought his father’s assistance to untie and bring him to the hospital. But the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
Thereafter, his body was brought to LG Flores Memorial Chapels for autopsy.
It was learned that Mendoza was suffering from depression due to personal problems. (Ria Fernandez)
3 men under drug watch list nabbed by Pasay city police
Three people under the drug watch list were arrested by the Pasay City Police during an anti-criminality operation in the city Thursday afternoon.
Authorities arrested suspects Joselito Biazon, 41; Emmanuel Mendoza, 55; and Arnel Grandeza, 42 who are all under the drug watch list.
Investigation showed that the three were arrested at around 5 in the afternoon along Saint Francis Street, Barangay 178, Maricaban, Pasay City.
Prior to the arrest, at about 4:30 p.m., SPO1 Villarojo together with five others were conducting Oplan Galugad along Saint Francis Street which led to the arrest of the suspects.
Police recovered from the trio during their arrest were three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.
Arrested suspects were turned over to Station Drug Enforcement Unit, Pasay City Police Station for investigation and subsequent filing of drug charges before the Pasay City Prosecutors Office. (Dhel Nazario)
