Engineer Romeo Rodriguez, 61, was set to file his COC when he suddenly collapsed while waiting for the elevator doors to open on the ground floor of Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila around 10 a.m.

A Comelec official told The Manila Bulletin that when he fell to the ground, Rodriguez sustained lacerations near his eye.

Police came to his aid and tried to revive. Later, he was rushed to the Manila Medical Center.

A Red Cross volunteer said Rodriguez allegedly fell into a coma at the hospital.

Rodriguez, a resident of the City of San Fernando, failed to submit his notarized COC and authorities were trying to contact his relatives as of press time.
