Romero was one of the lawyers of Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr., the alleged drug lord from Iloilo City who was also killed by unknown gunmen last August 2016.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) later identified Romero as a drug personality. He was in the list as a High Value Target-Level 3.
