No less than Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), confirmed the assassination of Atty. Ediljulio Romero.

According to a spot report from PRO-6, the 50-year-old lawyer was shot and killed while

at the Culasi Port in Roxas City around 1 P.M. of September 28.

Based on initial police reports, three unidentified male suspects killed the lawyer who was eating lunch at one of the carinderias.

With luggage in tow, the lawyer was at the port to take a r roll-on, roll-off (RORO) vessel bound for Metro Manila.

Romero was one of the lawyers of Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr., the alleged drug lord from Iloilo City who was also killed by unknown gunmen last August 2016.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) later identified Romero as a drug personality. He was in the list as a High Value Target-Level 3.

For over a decade, Romero has been linked to the illegal drug trade in Iloilo City. But he repeatedly denied this.

Romero was also a controversial figure and represented clients in highly publicized cases.

In January 2011, a grenade exploded in his house. At that time, Romero said the incident was work-related.
