CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – The regional office of the National Irrigation Administration – Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-UPRIIS) on Wednesday announced that it may impose pre-emptive release of water from the Pantabangan Dam once its water elevation reaches the spilling level of 221 meters in an anticipation for the huge volume of rainfall that typhoon Ompong may dump as it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Typhoon Ompong (international name: Mangkhut), is expected to enter PAR today, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

It is forecast to gain more strength as it approaches Cagayan Valley as well as Northern and Central Luzon.

As of yesterday, the current water level of the dam was at 212.73 meters, barely 8.27 meters below the spilling level.
