Reyes takes the place of Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. who retired from service early this week. He is expected to take his oath as new SC magistrate on August 13, Monday, according to Special Assistant to the President Christoper Go.

Reyes, a law graduate from San Beda College, was appointed to the appellate court back in 2003. He previously served as trial court judge in Pasig and Rizal.

Last year, Reyes penned the CA resolution that ruled in favor of the government on the case involving the controversial Mile Long property in Makati City. The CA ruled that the Makati court, that stopped a real estate company owned by the Prieto-Rufino families from vacating Mile Long property, has no jurisdiction over the matter.

In 2016, Reyes denied allegations by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that he accepted bribes to issue decisions favoring then Makati Mayor Junjun Binay Jr. The CA earlier stopped Binay’s preventive suspension over the alleged Makati City hall park building.
