This perception cropped up after it was learned that the House Committee on Natural Resources had cancelled its meeting scheduled on August 1. It was bruted about that its leadership had been affected because LPGMA partylist Rep. Arnel Ty did not vote for new speaker Gloria Arroyo.

"Other committees cancelled their respective hearings because they don't know yet their fate, " the source said.

Sources earlier said following their known support for former Speaker and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, Oriental Mindoro Reynaldo Umali, chairman the House Committee on Justice, and Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, chairman of House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, will "most likely" be replaced.

Umali and Southern Leyte Rep. Roger Mercado, chairman of the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments who also did note vote for Speaker Arroyo, earlier said they were willing to relinquish their post.

Deputy Speaker Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. disclosed that chairmen of four to five key committees will be stripped of their posts and will be replaced. However, he did not name names.

Currently, there are 72 committees, including special panels.
