Turn every street into a red carpet

Filipinas can now turn every street into a red carpet with the latest collection from Plains & Prints and Mark Bumgarner.

The homegrown fashion brand and famed designer Mark Bumgarner teamed up to create a collection of clothes that have red carpet aesthetics but are, at the same time, casual and wearable.

The couture designer said that he, alongside Plains& Prints, wanted to create clothes for Filipinas that are both “timeless” and “fashion forward”.

Bumgarner said he incorporated Filipino symbols such as the Anahaw and Waling-Waling in the prints of his and Plains & Prints’ creation.

“We took inspiration from the Anahaw because it is our national leaf and is endemic to our islands. We also chose the Waling-Waling prints because it’s considered as the ‘Queen of Philippine Flowers’ and one of the most prized orchids in the world. Along with Plains &Prints, we reinterpreted the elements into something wearable, laid-back, and modern,” Mark shared.

The 13-piece collection includes four dresses, five tops, one pantsuit, and three bottoms. Among the collection, Bumgarner said his favorites are the Francesca SL Dress, Viktoria Tube Top, and the Ella Pants.

‘On working with Plains & Prints’

The rising designer said the collaboration with Plains & Prints was a ‘no-brainer’ to him.

“When Plains & Prints came…I said yes right away,” Bumgarner told the media during the launch of the Plains&PrintsXMarkBumgarner collection yesterday at the Manila House Private Club.

According to Bumgarner, the collection took more than seven months to be finished.

“In terms of design process and creating the prints, in between three months or a little more, and the last half of that is on their end. I did the samples my way and then they have to counter it (with) the ready to wear way, because mine is all by hand so they have to counter it and see and think cost effectively,” said the designer on how the collaboration process was like.

The designer revealed that while he’s not used to creating ready-to-wear clothes, he found it easy to collaborate with Plains & Prints since he shares the same vision with the brand.

“I usually just do gowns and couture, so the challenge was to make it wearable and also to kind of blend in with Plains & Prints which was not that of a struggle because we kind of think the same way din,” he shared.

Plains & Prints Vice President Roxanne Farillas echoed the sentiment saying Bumgarner’s brand and Plains & Prints are both about “timelessness and elegance”.

“We both share the same passion of giving women the access to fashionable clothing. And we’re happy because this collaboration allowed us to meld our signature styles and come up with a collection that caters (to) the everyday fashion needs of modern Filipinas,” she shared.
