A building that will house the regional office of the National Commission on Indigenous People in Region 2 is underway, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently said.

The building that is currently being constructed at the Regional Government Center in Carig, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2018, DPWH- Region 2 director Melanio Briosos said.

“We aim to finish the project before the end of the year so that National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) will be more accessible for better service to the indigenous people in Cagayan Valley Region,” Brioso said.

According to the regional director, the DPWH Cagayan Third District Engineering Office under district engineer Danilo Tabilas is supervising the construction activities to ensure that the approved plan and specifications will be strictly followed.

NCIP executive director Rogelio Francisco Bantayan Jr., on the other hand, described the construction of the regional office building as “the birth symbol of unity of tribes in the region.”

The construction of the NCIP-Cagayan Valley Region Building received an allocation of P10.55 million under 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA). The construction started in February this year.
