‘Blood Olympics’ set on June 14

Cebu City – The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas is inviting government officials and agencies in Cebu to join the Blood Olympics, a worldwide bloodletting program to celebrate the World’s Blood Donor Day on June 14 at the Blood Center of Vicente Sotto Hospital here.

“We are not only sharing a part of us, we are also saving lives,” DOH-Central Visayas medical officer Dr. Jera Amendarez said.

Amendarez clarified that the DOH has enough blood stored at the Blood Center but will hold the Blood Olympics to promote the benefits blood donation.

“There’s a lot of advantages in donating blood. Aside from saving lives, you will know the number of your hemoglobin, so that you will know if you are anemic or not,” noted Armendarez.

She informed the public that getting blood from the Blood Center is free, only the screening process that people must pay P1500-1,800 (with a report from Larnie L. Bacalando / PIT intern.
