4.5-magnitude-earthquake rocks Davao Occidental

BUTUAN CITY – A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental province at dawn today, June 3, 2018, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

However, the regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense and Davao Occidental provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damages or injuries after the tremor struck Davao Occidental province early Sunday morning.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was registered at 1:11 a.m., Sunday morning (June 3).

The epicenter was plotted 203 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental province, it said.

The tremor had a depth of 27 km, Phivolcs said.

No aftershock is expected.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin, the state agency said.

At 4:55 a.m. on the same day (June 3), a magnitude 3.5 tremor was also recorded and its epicenter was traced 173 km southeast of the same spot of Sarangani and province of Davao Occidental, with a depth of only 9 km, Phivolcs said, in its latest bulletin.

The tremor was also tectonic in origin and the state agency did not expect any aftershock or tsunami.
