Tagbilaran City — Plastic bags will be banned on Saturdays in the city.

Mayor John Geesnell Yap said on Wednesday the city has partnered with the malls and other shopping centers in enforcing a no-plastic-bag policy on Saturdays.

The new policy will take effect on Saturday, June 2.

“I am also enjoining each and everyone of us to take an active part in the program’s city-wide implementation,” Yap said.

The mayor said the no plastic policy will be expanded to all days of the week by December.

The public is encouraged to bring their own re-usable bags.

The move is seen as an effort to further cut down the plastic waste.
