The Department of Education (DepEd) recently announced that the opening classes for School Year (SY) 2018 – 2019 in all public schools nationwide is on June 4.

In line with this, Bulletin Entertainment lists down celebrities who persevere to finish school despite their busy schedules.

Jodi Sta. Maria

Jodi Sta. Maria had to stop taking up Medical Biology when her acting career took off.

“Naging sobrang hirap iyong pagsabayin iyong pag-aaral at pag-aartista. It really took a toll on my health,” recounted Jodi in a previous interview on “Tonight With Boy Abunda.”

She went back to school last year as a Psychology student, hoping it would inspire everyone to keep going and never stop learning.

Early this year, the actress even made it to the Dean’s List.

Giselle Toengi

When Giselle Toengi rose to fame as a teen star in the ’90s, she had to put her studies on hold. She later graduated with honors from University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned a degree in Communications.

“There’s no better culmination for me because I worked so hard going back to school, having two kids, it’s a lot of work. But it all seems worth it knowing at the very end, dala-dala ko ’yung flag ng Pilipinas,” she told ABS-CBN news.

BiGuel

Some may think being a celebrity means never having to step foot in the four corners of classroom but not so for Kapuso actors Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali.

Together known as BiGuel, they value education for the time their stars point them to a different direction.

In a previous interview with Bulletin Entertainment, BiGuel stressed finishing school is mandatory.

Bianca is currently in Junior High School while Miguel is already in his 2nd year in college taking up entrepreneurship. The actress is mostly “homeschooled” because of her busy schedule.

Ryzza Mae Dizon

Known as Aling Maliit in the industry, Ryzza Mae Dizon makes sure to balance showbiz and school through the help of her tutor Patricia Tumulak.

In fact, this child wonder received medals for the Multiple Intelligence Award: Excellence in Verbal Linguistic and Eton Achiever from Eton International School.

Shamcey Supsup

Shamcey Supsup graduated Magna Cum Laude upon completing her architecture degree from the University of the Philippines. A true achiever, she was also the class valedictorian in elementary and salutatorian in high school. In 2011, she represented the country in the Miss Universe Pageant where she was named 3rd runner-up.

Myrtle Sarrosa

This actress-host graduated Cum Laude in Broadcast Communication degree at the University of the Philippines last year.

On Instagram, Myrtle wrote: “After six years, three courses, nine semesters, one reality TV show, 12 teleseryes and over 50 television shows – I’m finally here today. To be honest, I never thought I’d see this day coming. After numerous struggles that came my way, there were several times where I doubted myself, cried and just wanted to give up.

“But despite the overwhelming odds against me, someway and somehow I made it with the help of God, my family, friends, professors, classmates and workmates. Like they say… the struggle is real but it’s all worth it.”

Carla Abellana

The actress graduated Cum Laude from De La Salle University-Manila with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Georgina Wilson

Before posing for the cover of high-end fashion magazines, Georgina Wilson was admitted to the Economics Honor program of Ateneo de Manila University. She finished a double major degree in Commerce Accounting and Finance at the University of Sydney. According to Preview Magazine, she’s a “self-professed math geek.”

Agot Isidro

Agot Isidro graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where she took up Fashion Buying and Merchandising. Prior to that, she took Masters in Communication at the Ateneo de Manila University and finished her undergraduate degree in Interior Design at the University of the Philippines.

Benjamin Alves

He is a self-confessed bookworm and his fondness for reading eventually led him to take up English Literature at the University of Guam. Take note, he graduated Summa Cum Laude.

“Just by having a degree by default, you should be passionate about reading,” was how he put it, adding he also sees reading a “breather from the spotlight.” He encourages many people, especially the youth, to find time for reading.
