Family of 5 massacred in Zamboanga del Norte

Zamboanga City  – A man, his two children and three nephews – all no older than 11 years old, were hacked and killed by a man, who was later shot dead after he tried to escape police custody, Saturday in the village of Libucon in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.

Barangay Libucon Chairman Mahari Abdullah said local residents found the bodies of the victims in an abandoned house and at a lot near a quarry area Saturday afternoon.

Abdullah said the bodies of Majid Hali, 35, and his children Nazer Hali, 10; and Adzmar Hali, 7, were found at an abandoned house in the village, while those of his  nephews Sayder Wahid, 11; and Mohamad Said Mukaram, 7, were found  at a gravel and sand quarrying site in the same village.

Abdullah said he immediately called the police for assistance after learning that Asdal Untong, 32, was responsible for the massacre.

Responding policemen and Abdullah were able to convince Untong to surrender.

While he was detained at the police station in Sirawai, Untong tried to escape, prompting the policemen to shoot him dead.

According to report reaching here, the police were able to recover the weapon used in hacking the victims who sustained hack wounds on their heads and  bodies.

There were no reports what pushed Untong to  commit the  barbaric act.
