Iloilo City prepares for tourist influx

The city government here is preparing for possible influx of tourists with the impending closure of Boracay Island.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III on Tuesday said that there are tourists who would look for alternative destinations since they already have booked their flights for Boracay.

Among the major activities the city could offer is the proposed night market, he said.

To complement this, he said that he would like restaurants to be checked to look into the sanitation aspect. If ever there are recommendations to improve their services, then it must be implemented.

Last December, the city government has painted and illuminated all district plazas to make them a destination during night time.

Espinosa said he would have these places inspected, including the street lights if they need to be replaced.

In addition, the mayor said that they are looking into other destinations available within the Metro Iloilo and Guimaras circuit.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has approved the six months temporary closure of Boracay Island starting April 26 to give way to its rehabilitation.
