Ceres, Global resume bids

Ceres-Negros looks to keep its hold on the Group F lead while Global-Cebu tries to stay alive in the chase for the two knockout stage berths in Group G at the resumption of AFC Cup action tonight.

Ceres is favored to run roughshod over host Boeungket Angkor at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh while Global is determined to make amends against Vietnamese club FLC Thahn Hoa at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Both matches are set at 7:30 p.m.

Ceres downed Myanmar’s Shan United, 1-0, on Bienvenido Marañon’s 14th minute penalty in Yangon while Global escaped past Yangon United, 2-1, at Rizal Memorial on a last-gasp winner by Rufo Sanchez.

The Busmen lead Group F with 10 points, three clear of second-running Home United of Singapore while Global is a point behind Indonesia’s Bali United for second place in Group G.

Both Philippines Football League sides posted contrasting results in their first meetings with today’s opponents.

Ceres clobbered Boeungket, 9-0, to set an AFC Cup record at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City while Global fell, 1-0, to Thanh Hoa in Hanoi, Vietnam.
