Cardinal Tagle to lead Holy Week rites at the Manila Cathedral

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will lead the Holy Week activities at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila starting on Palm Sunday, April 9, until the Easter Vigil on the night of April 15, Black Saturday.

The Church leader will bless the palm fronds at 7 a.m. at the Plaza Roma (church yard) and will preside over the Holy Mass that follows.

On April 13, Maundy Thursday, a Morning Prayer will be held at 6:30 a.m., to be followed by the Chrism Mass to be officiated by His Eminence at 7 a.m.

At 5 p.m., Tagle will lead the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper. The washing of the feet is part of this liturgy.

This year, the prelate will wash the feet of twelve people from different sectors of society that include two government officials, two policemen, two relatives of extra judicial killings, two former drug addicts, two surrenderers, and two volunteers.

On April 14, Good Friday, the Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion begins at 3 p.m., to be followed by the Veneration of the Cross. There will be prayers and reflections during the Seven Last Words from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The Stations of the Cross will be held at 8:30 am.

The Easter Vigil will start at 8 p.m., on April 15, Black Saturday.

Confessions will be held on Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday at the Manila Cathedral at 8 a.m.
