Camp Bancasi, Butuan City — Local folks flee from their homes in Lanuza, Surigao del Sur due to continued threats of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army Terrorists (CNT) last Wednesday.

As of the latest count, a total of 155 families or 678 individuals sought refuge at the barangay office and gymnasium of Brgy. Agsam as CPP-NPA terrorists attacked the Community Support Program (CSP) Teams of the 36th Infantry Battalion at Purok 2, Sitio Ibuan, Brgy. Mampi, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur.

It was learned that government forces were facilitating the implementation of Community Development Programs of the said barangay when the terrorist attacked at about 12:20 p.m.

Lt. Col. Xerxez Trinidad, 36th Infantry Battalion commander, condemned the NPA atrocities in his area. “We condemn this treacherous attack on our soldiers facilitating development programs in the community and the attacks in the community with complete disregard to innocent civilians,” Trinidad said.

“This is a desperate attempt to force support from the residents and impose fear on them. A devious and complete disregard to the human rights of every individual especially to the peace loving community of Brgy. Mampi,” he added.

Mampi Barangay Chairman Allan G. Juagpao told field Army units that before the attack took place on Wednesday, the villagers were already ordered not to support the government soldiers in the area, particularly the nine families in upper Ibuan area whose children applied in the Army.

“These nine families were threatened and ordered to leave their homes and farmlands,” said Capt. Garello, quoting the report of Barangay Chairman Juagpao.
