Despite parading with only eight players, the Lady Stags displayed cohesion and strength against the Lady Pirates to extend their winning streak to four games and improve to 5-2 forsolo third.

Nikka Dalisay led San Sebastian with 16 points built on 12 kills and four aces while Dangie Encarnacion and Joyce Sta. Rita contributed 10 points apiece in the 55-minute match.

The Lady Stags made 18 service aces including eight from Julie Anne Tiangco. They also exposed the Lady Pirates’ lethargic attacks after Lyceum managed only 18 kills compared to San Sebastian’s 33.

“We should always play smart during the game,” said San Sebastian’s multi-titled coach Roger Gorayeb of his small but formidable rotation.

Lyceum, which also has eight players in the rotation, struggled throughout with only four players scoring.

Bien Juanillo and Christine Miralles finished eight and six points, respectively, while Monica Sevilla and Elaine Patio had four and two points.

The Lady Pirates dropped to 1-6, just one game ahead of cellar-dweller Mapua Lady Cardinals.

In men’s action, Lyceum survived San Sebastian, 24-26, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-13.

Jhonel Badua and Joeward Presnede exploded for 23 and 20 points, respectively, for the Pirates while Diego Ilano added 14.
