The Department of Education (DepEd) said that the participating schools in the pilot implementation of the MATATAG curriculum were “receptive” to the new K to 10 curriculum on the first day of the pilot run on Monday, Sept. 25.
“Generally speaking, the first day of the pilot implementation of the MATATAG K to 10 Curriculum was met with positivity as learners, teachers, and schools were receptive to the new curriculum,” DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa told reporters in a Viber message.
The pilot run of the revised curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 10 covers 35 schools in seven regions.

Poa noted that the participating regions reported that teachers were “adequately prepared for the pilot implementation.”
This, he added, was due to “capacity building activities and orientation sessions on the new curriculum conducted prior to the first day of implementation.”
Period of adjustment
Given this, Poa explained that class program designs are “undergoing further adjustments in some schools to address the changes in time allotments of particular learning areas.”
This period of adjustment, he added, is “expected” since the very purpose of the pilot implementation is to “monitor and determine areas” that may need improvement or enhancements.

Poa said that the output and feedback from the pilot run may be used to prepare for the nationwide phased implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum in School Year (SY) 2024-2025.
