NLEX starts construction of ₱2.2-billion C5 Northlink segment, aimed for 2026 completion

NLEX Corp., the private operator of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), is set to begin construction on the ₱2.2-billion, two-kilometer elevated expressway that will connect NLEX Mindanao Avenue toll plaza to Quirino Highway in Quezon City.

During a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) President and Chief Operating Officer Jose Ma. Lim said the NLEX-C5 Northlink segment 8.2 section 1A project is expected to be up and running in the first quarter of 2026.

“We are enthusiastic about this project as it contributes to our ongoing efforts to reduce traffic congestion on local roads in the metro,” said Lim.

Once completed, the expressway will offer a seamless route for motorists heading to and from Valenzuela City or Quezon City, cutting travel time and easing traffic congestion on major thoroughfares.

“We believe that unhindered mobility fosters better opportunities for jobs, businesses, and economic growth,” Lim added.

NLEX Corp. earlier signed a deal with China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) for the construction of the segment.

Lim said the choice to build an elevated expressway was driven by the desire to reduce construction-related disruptions for local communities.

Based on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) website, NLEX Corp. has completed 77.24 percent of the right-of-way acquisitions needed for the project.

Both the local government units (LGUs) of Valenzuela City and Quezon City have pledged their support to affected communities, particularly those near Tullahan River.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, in particular, said her LGU will serve the housing-related needs of over 100 families.

“During construction, we will work closely with all stakeholders to minimize disruptions. Rest assured that MPTC and NLEX are committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Lim.

The soon-to-rise segment is part of the broader NLEX-C5 Northlink project, which stretches 11.3 kilometers from Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue.

This project is part of NLEX’s ongoing efforts to stimulate business growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to the economic development of the surrounding areas.

NLEX Corp. is a subsidiary of MPTC, the toll road arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC).
