Former president Rodrigo Duterte might not be fully aware of the Charter change (Cha-cha) discussions in the House of Representatives.

Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo had this to say following Duterte’s tirades during the recent pro-Apollo Quiboloy prayer rally in Manila, wherein he claimed that the ongoing Cha-Charter effort was geared toward the term extension of elected officials.

“Maybe he (Duterte) hasn’t been clarified on what's happening here in Congress,” Dimaporo said in a press conference Wednesday, March 13.

“It's very clear, it's in black and white that we're only dealing specifically with the economic provisions," said the veteran congressman and chairman of the House Committee on Muslim Affairs.

Dimaporo is referring to Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No.7, which proposes the lifting of the economic prohibitions in Articles XII, XIV, and XVI of the 1987 Constitution. These are provisions related to public utilities, education, and advertising.

Last March 6, the measure was passed by the Committee of the Whole, which was composed of the 300-plus strong House itself.

It was approved on second reading during plenary session Wednesday night.

At any rate, Dimaporo acknowledged Duterte as a "deeply respected and well-loved" figure in Mindanao.
