NAIA's new operator teams up with telco giants for faster WiFi

Passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) are set to experience a faster Internet connection as its new operator upgraded wifi connectivity as part of its efforts to enhance services.

In a statement, New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) said it partnered with telecommunications giant PLDT Inc. and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. to upgrade NAIA wifi to speeds between 50 to 60 mbps.

“For air travelers, fast and reliable internet connectivity is a must,” NNIC said. “Whether it’s for completing online travel requirements, accessing information, staying connected with loved ones, or simply browsing social media, good internet access is essential at any modern international airport.”

Currently, an average of 1,000 users per hour connect to NAIA wifi across all terminals. With the upgraded connection, passengers will be able to connect freely for three hours, eliminating the previous two-hour limit and the need to provide personal information.

“We are committed to providing a high level of service that meets the expectations of today’s travelers,” NNIC said. “In time, we hope to deliver on this promise across all aspects of NAIA operations.”

NNIC recently took over operations of NAIA last month. Part of its promise is to modernize and elevate NAIA to world-class standards for P170 billion. This includes plans to increase passenger capacity from 43 million to 62 million annually and air traffic movements from 42 to 48 per hour.

Following its takeover, NNIC imposed various fees such as overnight car parking fees, landing and take-off fees, and VIP fees, among others in a bid to curb abuse from non-passengers and generate revenue for the modernization of NAIA.
