WTFu by MR. FU: A bigger and bolder Borracho

Celebrity lawyer Atty. Ferdie Topacio has supported my abstract artworks since I started five years ago. ((buy-la buy-la ang lolo mo!) One unforgettable gesture he made was when he got so many The Art of FU pieces and gave them to his clients as Christmas gifts. (may budget!). He also always supports my exhibits. (kaya di ko sya kinakalimutan iinvite!) He is the first collector to view and buy whenever I have a new art series. (nagayuma ng art ko!)

I recently delivered to him the artworks he reserved from my new collection. (di ko sya pwedeng dedmahin!) Over lunch, he shared stories about his love for paintings  (may mga natira pa sa gallery ko, sir!) He also mentioned his passion for movies, which started in his childhood. That’s why he put up Borracho films. (igagawa raw nila ako ng sexy movie!)

“May mga taong who were impressed sa output ng Borracho kahit na maliit lang kami. Yung 'Mamasapano' kasi garnered five awards sa MMFF tapos nominated three awards sa luna. Yung 'Deception' naman, seven nominations sa Star Awards and may iba pang award giving bodies. Naimpress  din  sila sa online concert ni Myrtle na ginawa namin na may 1.7 million viewers worldwide.” Atty. Topacio shares. (labanan ko yang si Myrtle.  Chos!)

Starting next year, Borracho will expand its operations with the help of local and foreign investors. “They went to us to invest in Borracho — very ambitious project nila. They plan to purchase equipment para di na kami magrerent, construct a sound stage and studio in Cavite.” (sana maginvest din sila sakin!)

They aim to produce more projects. “Sa ngayon kaya lang namin, four movies a year pero with their investment, gusto nila 20 to 30 movies a year. Gusto rin nila magcultivate kami ng sarili naming stars through talent management.” (this is my time to shine!)

While they are in the process of collaboration, Borracho has lined up four films, which include 'Spring in Prague' starring Paolo Gumabao at Czech Republic Star Sara Sandeva, a May-December affair story featuring Edu Mazano at Ritz Azul, and two docu-films about former NPA rebels and victims of the Plaza Miranda Massacre. (ay sana join ako dun sa Prague!)

"Ayaw naming gumawa ng pelikula na superficial. Gusto namin may socio-political commentary. Halimbawa kahit love story yan, lalagyan naman natin ng lalim," Atty Topacio explains. (bawal daw kacheapan!)

Atty. Topacio admits producing films is challenging, but it gives a sense of fulfillment. “This is the best film school. Wag ka na pumunta ng film school. Magproduce ka nalang.  Pero magmamatrikula ka rin talaga. The process is costly, but you learn a lot. For now, we have come up with a formula na hango sa mga Hollywood filmmakers." (ay eto na ang chance ko maging Hollywood star!)
