P24.5M Butuan airport terminal opened

The Butuan Airport has officially opened its P24.5 million, expanded passenger terminal, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Thursday, March 9.

The Principal Class 1 Airport serving Butuan City and Agusan del Norte underwent an extensive renovation to rehabilitate its existing terminal building.

The airport can now accommodate a total of 616 passengers, up from its previous 248 passenger capacity.

The available space of the terminal has also been increased from 1,440 square meters (sqm) to 2,016 sqm., to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers.

As Butuan continues to progress, the airport will welcome more travelers and tourists to the city and in the surrounding Agusan del Norte Province as well as Mindanao, according to CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo.

"This is aligned with our objective of creating and providing safe, efficient, secured, and comfortable transport services to the Filipino people," he added.

Butuan airport currently caters to 12 flights daily from Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, with its 2.1km runway capable of accommodating the 179-seater Airbus 320/321.

CAAP underscored that its expansion is a testament to the government's commitment to improving the aviation infrastructure in the country, promoting economic growth, and enhancing the travel experience of passengers.
