Profile cloning, a stealthy cyber threat

Social media account profile cloning is a deceptive tactic where scammers create a fake profile that closely replicates your own. DICT thwarts majority of cyberattacks on government agencies

During a recent Congressional Committee Hearing on Information and Communications Technology held jointly with the House Committee on Public Information, Undersecretary Jeffrey Ian Dy of the DICT revealed rising cyberattacks against Philippine agencies but highlighted the DICT's proactive mitigation efforts. From January to March 2024, 281 hacking incidents were reported, with 90% resolved. Dy emphasized the success of early detection systems, which neutralized 811 initial hacking attempts on 28 agencies, stopping over 74% before escalation. The hearing underscored the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity measures and cooperation between lawmakers and the DICT to enhance national security.
