The New People’s Army (NPA) has claimed responsibility for the death of Sr. Insp. Porferio Gabuya Jr., who was gunned down while having coffee in a store a few meters from the city police station.
Garma said At least 6,000 policemen will be deployed during the festivity, “We will have at least 4,500 policemen from different provinces who will augment our current 1,500 personnel. We will also tap security guards and students as force multipliers,” he said.
Garma said authorities will proceed with the plan to cut off cell phone signals during the celebration.
“There are specific areas where there will be no cell phone signals. We were told by the National Telecommunications Commission to write them a letter to finalize everything,” he said.
“The police will be there to secure but we are asking everyone, especially the tourists, to take it upon themselves to take extra care,” said Garma.
