MMDA to teach kids to properly dispose of their garbage thru games, fun-filled activities

By Jel Santos Through games and fun-filled activities, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will teach children to properly dispose of their garbage. On Monday, December 10, the agency will hold the “Kiddie Solid Waste Management Summit 2018” in Pasig City. The one-day activity was themed: "Start ‘Em Young." It intends to provide an avenue for young students to enjoy while learning solid waste management and recycling. “Teaching proper waste disposal can be fun and easy. We would like to cultivate a positive attitude among children towards the practice of solid waste management through activities we have prepared,” said Elsie Encarnacion, MMDA Solid Waste Management Office head. Over 500 elementary student--from Grade 3 to Grade 6--coming from various schools in the metropolis will flock to the Pasig City Sports Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of boring lectures, booths and stations will be put up to teach children. It will feature games and creative activities on eco-bricking, anti-littering such as shoot that waste, basura patrol, pledge wall, poster-making contest, dice the materials, erase waste, unscramble, bingo basura and buy back center where trash can be exchanged for different items. “We will create an exciting, interactive and engaging atmosphere for the students,” she said Officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Alliance of Recyclers and Materials Sustainability (PARMS), and National Solid Waste Management Council (NSWMC) will attend the summit.
