MANGALDAN, Pangasinan – Farmers and residents in this town were shocked to find out Wednesday that a parcel of land planted to watermelons concealed thousands of rusting high-caliber bullets and other ammunition.

P/Lt. Col. Jun Wacnag, officer-in-charge of the Mangaldan Police Station, saw how farmers and residents huddled at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, looking at the thousands of ammunition scattered on a field in Barangay Maasin here.
Wacnag said farmers accidentally plowed over the soil concealing the ammunition, unearthing the cache which could have been buried under the soil many years ago.
Wacnag and his men proceeded to clear the field and dig deeper for other pieces of ammunition.
In all, they were able to unearth an estimated 4,000 pieces of 50-caliber ammunition, and 3,000 pieces of ammunition of still undetermined caliber.
They observed that all the bullets were severely oxidized and ruster.
The recovered ammunition are now in the custody of the Mangaldan Police force.
