Che'Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian romped past also-ran Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College, 99-60, behind a relentless offensive barrage to secure a quarterfinals berth in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Former PBA draftee Samboy de Leon led a balanced attack with 15 points while guard Ryan Costelo came up with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Revellers proved too hot to handle for the cold-shooting Generals.
Wingman Allyn Bulanadi and center Alfred Batino provided the tremendous boost off the bench, combining for 26 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists, for the Che’Lu Bar and Grill which stretched its win-run to five, improved to 7-3 overall and claimed the fourth berth in the six-team playoff cast.
“Kahit papaano makaka-relax na,” said Revellers coach Stevenson Tiu, sounding pleased with his wards’ sustained attack despite missing the services of top forward Michael Calisaan who has already been ruled out for the conference with a fractured left elbow.
Veteran Cedrick Ablaza had a team-high 14 points off the bench while skipper Cedric De Joya added 10 points in a losing cause for the Generals, who suffered their eighth setback in nine matches.
Batangas seemed determined to play the spoiler’s role to the hilt in the early going as the Generals jumped to a quick 4-0 start behind back-to-back buckets by Jerome Garcia, and Chris Dela Peña.
But the Revellers started to get their groove behind De Leon and Costelo before they unleashed their full might in the second quarter on the way to a commanding 46-25 advantage at the break.
Che’Lu Bar and Grill, firing on all cylinders, went on to lead as high as 44 points in the second half, thanks to its red-hot shooting performance that saw the Revellers drain 37 of their 84 attempts, highlighted by 15 triples.
“We prepared hard for this game since this is a must-win for us,” said Tiu. “With this victory, we’re already assured of a playoff spot. Ang challenge ko sa mga players, playoff type na ‘to. Every game counts. Kaya ‘yung intensity mas mataas na dapat.”
