Growth-conscious Imus implements land use program

IMUS CITY, Cavite — The city has started implementing the Comprehensive Land Use Program (CLUP) as part of its modernization program.

City Planning Officer Rodel B. Pelaez said that the CLUP was vital for Imus in terms of land use and zoning for infrastructures, industrial and commercial establishments and residential houses, among others, and its rapidly growing population.
Imus has a population of 403,785, the fourth biggest in Cavite after the cities of Dasmariñas, Bacoor and General Trias.
“The meaning of CLUP is so broad and it is a long-range program. To make it short, CLUP is putting up land use and zoning in order that will be viable for business, living and tourism, among others,” Pelaez told Manila Bulletin.
The CLUP is a planning program prepared by every local government unit (LGU) to maximize the allocation and proper use of land resources.
It was implemented in Imus in December 2018.
Under the Local Government Code and other pertinent laws, all local governments must continue to prepare, revise and update their comprehensive land use plans through a zoning ordinance.
The plan is the guide for decisions on public and private land development proposals, the expenditure of public funds, availability of tax policy, cooperative efforts and issues of pressing concerns such as farmland preservation and the rehabilitation of some old neighborhoods.
