TNT got a familiar spectator at courtside on Friday night when it pulled off a 91-86 victory over Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.

Mikey Williams was in attendance to watch his former team – a reunion of sorts between the two-time Finals MVP and the Tropang Giga since they won the first of TNT’s back-to-back Governors’ Cup title and after their unceremonious separation due to a contract impasse.

It can be recalled that TNT terminated the contract of Williams after the guard failed to return to the country after their championship run.

Williams still has a two-year deal to the team but reportedly opted for a renegotiation of his contract where the two camps failed to reach common grounds.

While the former guard is back in the country to join the Strong Group Athletics for its Dubai tournament, TNT head coach Chot Reyes said he hasn’t spoken to his former player suggesting that there’s no ongoing talks for a potential Williams return.

“We haven't spoken in a while. There was a time we were in touch. We’ve been in touch with his agents. Ang dami nang agents nya na nakausap ko di ko na alam kung sino talaga but since then we’ve had radios silence perhaps if one year na or at least six months already,” said Reyes.

But that is not to say that door is totally closed for Williams as Reyes hinted that the franchise remains open at engaging with talks with the playmaker whose rights in the PBA remained with TNT.

“He knows my number, he knows how to get in touch with me. I said I’m just a message or a phone call away,” he added.

Former teammates, coaches and even team utility men actually took time to greet and catch up with Williams during breaks and at the end of the game – a sign that there hasn’t been any real animosity between the guard and his former teammates.

“Kinamusta ko lang siya kasi as a player, as teammates wala naman kaming issues sa kanya. Okay naman kami sa kanya. Kinamusta lang namin siya, okay naman sya parang fit pa nga sya ngayon,” said Calvin Oftana who briefly talked with Williams after the game.

“Tama yung sinabi ni Calvin eh. Every time that he’s with us sa practice, training workout wala (problema), pag lumalabas lang sya sa Pilipinas yun ang problema,” Reyes opined.

“Pag nasisisid di na umahon eh,” he then jested before turning serious. “Pag nandito wala kaming problema.”
